Community and School Gardens have facilitated the community to work collectively on their projects, working as a whole and in small groups. This is an important step in achieving social inclusion.
Tools and training were provided equipping learners with the skills, confidence and information to bring their dreams to fruition. Ongoing support and achievable goals through viable pathways ensure these outcomes are sustainable.
The work of each group was presented and displayed in each different setting and each groups’ ideas were incorporated into one holistic garden. To do this each group negotiated and discussed the final plan, thus developing skills in public speaking and advocacy
Participants across the 6 projects have learned:
- design drawing skills
- creative design skills
- problem solving techniques
- public speaking skills
- team building
- leadership skills and presentation skills
The gardens in each different location are becoming a space of peace and solitude for the whole community where they can grow their food, participate in community activities and give a voice to marginalised groups enabling participation.
